Is booking direct safe?

Yes — here's exactly what protects you when you skip the OTA.

Stripe-powered payments

All direct bookings use Stripe — the same payment processor behind Shopify, Amazon, and Airbnb. Card data never touches the host's server.

Manually vetted hosts

Every host on the DirectBookingHost marketplace is reviewed before their listing goes live. No anonymous listings, no fake properties.

Rental agreements at booking

Direct-booking hosts provide a signed rental agreement before you pay — stronger legal protection than most OTA bookings.

Direct host contact from day one

When you book direct, you get the host's real contact info immediately — no platform intermediating your communication if something goes wrong.

Guest questions answered

How do I find vacation rentals with no booking fees?
Search the DirectBookingHost marketplace at directbookinghost.com/stays. Every listing is a direct booking site — no OTA takes a cut, so there are no guest service fees added at checkout. What you see is what you pay. Alternatively, ask a host for their direct booking link if you found them on Airbnb or Vrbo.
Why are vacation rental fees so high on Airbnb and Vrbo?
Airbnb charges guests a service fee of approximately 14% on top of the nightly rate. Vrbo charges guests around 12%. These fees go to the platform — not to the host. When you book direct with the owner instead, neither party pays a platform fee. The nightly rate stays the same (or lower), and the host keeps their full earnings.
Is it safe to book a vacation rental directly from the owner?
Yes, when done through a reputable direct booking platform. DirectBookingHost uses Stripe for secure payment processing (the same infrastructure as Shopify, Amazon, and Airbnb itself). Every listing is manually reviewed before going live. Hosts provide rental agreements, property photos, and full contact details. You pay the same Stripe processing fee (2.9% + 30¢) that applies to all card transactions — no platform markup.
How much can I save by booking a vacation rental direct?
On a $1,000 stay: Airbnb adds roughly $140 in guest service fees. Vrbo adds roughly $120. Booking direct saves you that entire amount — $140 to $280 on a $1,000–$2,000 vacation. For a week-long stay at $300/night ($2,100 total), the savings are $250–$350 compared to booking through an OTA.
What states have direct booking vacation rentals on DirectBookingHost?
DirectBookingHost has vacation rental listings across the United States. Popular destinations include Florida (Destin, Orlando, Florida Keys), Tennessee (Gatlinburg, Nashville), Colorado (Breckenridge, Vail), North Carolina (Outer Banks, Asheville), Texas (Hill Country, Galveston), and California (Lake Tahoe, Palm Springs). Search the marketplace or browse by state for listings with no booking fees in your destination.
How do I contact a host to book direct and avoid Airbnb fees?
On the DirectBookingHost marketplace (directbookinghost.com/stays), you can submit an inquiry directly to the host — no account required. For hosts you found on Airbnb, you can message them through the platform and ask for their direct booking website. Once you have the link, you book and pay through their secure checkout, skipping the OTA service fee entirely.
